Sofa Gran Khan

 1 1

The 276 cm version of Sofà – a hollow frame filled with large soft cushions filled with Gellyfoam® (2004 edra-patented foam mix) and Kapok (the world’s lightest plant fibre harvested from the mature pods of the Ceiba Pentandra tree, also known as the silky plant fibre) - now becomes Gran Khan, a creation reminiscent of the primitive couches that furnished Mongolian tents. If an object’s significance is revealed by its name, then Sofà’s essential, uncluttered form and invitingly soft cushions is the essence of comfort. And as the embodiment of a mental image, it can take on different forms. So an example of bourgeois creature comforts has now become Gran Khan seemingly inspired from tents strewn with skins and carpets inhabited by nomadic peoples in the lands of “the crescent moon”. Draped in a single leather covering comprising two, 4 mm thick, rough-cut hides with central seam. Attached with large aluminum hook fasteners.
